Bureau of Labor Statistics

The Bureau of Labor Statistics collects and disseminates data on employment and unemployment, price change, compensation, productivity, safety and health, and other labor statistics. These statistics help formulate economic and social policy, other decisions in the business community, and research on labor market issues.

Effective

This is the highest rating a program can achieve. Programs rated Effective set ambitious goals, achieve results, are well-managed and improve efficiency.
  • The Bureau of Labor Statistics fills a unique role in the development and dissemination of national labor-related, price and productivity statistics. Seven of its series are designated as Principal Federal Economic Indicators. The program produces impartial, objective, and accurate data that are essential to developing public policy.
  • The program consistently achieves its goals for timeliness, customer satisfaction and improving relevancy and accuracy.
  • The program collaborates effectively with stakeholders. For example, the program coordinates with the States in the Labor Market Information cooperative statistical programs and with the Census Bureau and Bureau of Economic Analysis on price and employment programs.
