B.J. Stupak Olympic scholarships

This program is designed to provide support to olympic athletes who are pursuing a postsecondary education. The program provides financial assistance to athletes training at the United States Olympic Education Center, or one of the United States Olympic Training Centers.

A rating of Results Not Demonstrated (RND) indicates that a program has not been able to develop acceptable performance goals or collect data to determine whether it is performing.
  • The Olympic Scholarships program is duplicative of other Federal student financial assistance programs. In conjunction with the vast amount of financial aid available through public and private institutions and foundations, several Federal student financial assistance programs offer Olympic athletes the opportunity to pursue a postsecondary education.
  • Due to legal requirements, Olympics Scholarships funding is awarded to one specified grantee (the United States Olympic Education Center) without regard to performance. There is little incentive for the grantee to improve outcomes or collect meaningful performance data.
  • Targets have not yet been established for the program's annual and long-term performance measures.

  • Working with Congress to terminate this duplicative program.
  • Establishing targets for the program's annual and long-term performance measures.
  • Reviewing and revising program managers' performance agreements to ensure that managers are held accountable for achieving key program results.
