Federal Support for Gallaudet University
Federal funding for Gallaudet helps promote educational and employment opportunities for persons who are deaf. Gallaudet offers liberal arts programs for baccalaureate and graduate students. It also operates elementary and secondary education programs and conducts research related to deafness.

- The Department of Education has developed a schedule and mechanism for monitoring federally funded programs at Gallaudet. However, it has not fully implemented the plan or conducted site visits to Gallaudet to document its use of funds, assess program data quality, or evaluate the University's compliance with its governing legislation.
- The Department of Education has not evaluated the federally funded programs at Gallaudet to ensure that they are addressing the needs of their service population, fulfilling their statutory purpose, and achieving results.

We are taking the following actions to improve the performance of the program:
- Ensuring that Gallaudet takes affirmative steps to improve student outcomes related to staying in school, graduation, and post-school outcomes, including pursuit of graduate degrees or finding jobs.
- Implementing the agreed upon monitoring plan for the federally funded programs at Gallaudet to document the use of funds, assess program quality, and determine compliance with governing documents.
- Identifying and evaluating strategies for ensuring that Gallaudet is addressing the needs of its service population, operating effectively, fulfilling it statutory purpose, and achieving results.
