Mathematics and Science Partnerships

This Department of Education (ED) program provides grants to state and local education agencies to improve students' academic achievement in mathematics and science. Mathematics and Science Partnerships (MSP) grantees use program funds to promote strong teaching skills for elementary and secondary school teachers.

A rating of Results Not Demonstrated (RND) indicates that a program has not been able to develop acceptable performance goals or collect data to determine whether it is performing.
  • The MSP program is well managed. ED regularly collects timely and credible performance information, collaborates effectively with other related programs, uses strong financial management practices, and has oversight practices that provide sufficient knowledge of grantee activities.
  • ED has not yet established baselines and targets for the program's new annual and long-term performance measures. Therefore, there are not yet sufficient data to determine if the program is meeting its performance objectives in areas such as student achievement and teacher qualifications.
  • ED has developed a MSP efficiency measure--the timely and accurate reporting of State performance data--but has not yet established baselines and targets for it.
