Bureau of Indian Affairs - Operation and Maintenance of Irrigation Projects

The program operates, maintains and collects revenue for 16 authorized irrigation projects. It also provides technical assistance to Tribes on another 100 subsistence type irrigation projects built in the early 1900s that the U.S. no longer has a statutory obligation to operate, maintain or rehabilitate.

We are taking the following actions to improve the performance of the program:

  • Addressing and correcting the outstanding General Accountability Office's audit deficiences.
  • Compiling an inventory of facility conditions on the 16 specificially authorized irrigation projects.
  • Developing meaningful performance measurements to guide informed management and budgetary decisions, such as, conditions of the irrigation systems and funding needs.
