Investment in Research Infrastructure and Instrumentation

This National Science Foundation activity builds the nation's research capability through critical investments in advanced instrumentation, facilities, cyberinfrastructure, and experimental tools. These include Major Research Instrumentation, Research Resources, Science Resources Statistics, and Shared Cyberinfrastructure.

Effective

This is the highest rating a program can achieve. Programs rated Effective set ambitious goals, achieve results, are well-managed and improve efficiency.
  • This program is effective in supporting to development and use of a portfolio of tools to make scientists and engineers more effective. Independent assessments find that the program is effective in providing infrastructure and instrumentation to the research community across most fields of science and engineering.
  • Infrastructure and Instrumentation includes advanced computing and networking systems and environments. This program provides access to a high-speed network of supercomputers and other advanced resources for over 3,200 scientists, engineers, and educators.
  • The program includes activities to collect, interpret, and disseminate many of the Federal Government's statistics on science and technology.
