Rating

What This Rating Means

PERFORMING
Moderately Effective

In general, a program rated Moderately Effective has set ambitious goals and is well-managed. Moderately Effective programs likely need to improve their efficiency or address other problems in the programs' design or management in order to achieve better results.
  • The program offers services that are also provided by private entities. The program only serves a small percentage of small manufacturers each year and does not have full cost recovery through fees.
  • The program is well-managed. New centers are established through open competitions, and center activities are closely monitored.
  • The program has adequate performance measures, which indicate the benefit to firms over time. The program surveys assisted firms on sales, capital investment, and cost savings. Based on these benefits, however, it appears users should be willing to cover the program's costs.

Improvement Plan

About Improvement Plans

We are taking the following actions to improve the performance of the program:

  • Moving ahead with plans to implement Next Generation MEP, with a greater emphasis on technology-based innovation services.
  • Supporting discontinuation of Federal funding and transition of MEP centers to self-supported entities.
