Cybercrime

The FBI's Cybercrime program deters and investigates cybercrimes - criminal acts facilitated by or involving computers, including the Internet. The most serious of these involve terrorist organizations or foreign government-sponsored operations attempting to steal sensitive information or disrupt critical operations.

Rating

What This Rating Means

PERFORMING
Adequate

This rating describes a program that needs to set more ambitious goals, achieve better results, improve accountability or strengthen its management practices.
  • The program clearly addresses the growing and dangerous problem of criminal acts facilitated by or involving computers. The program has unique and distinct responsibilities among federal agencies.
  • The program has taken steps to improve its efficiency and effectiveness by consolidating resources under one Division. Prior to this consolidation, cyber resources were spread among several different field offices and headquarters divisions.
  • The program must work with their partners in the private sector and state and local law enforcement to collect timely and credible performance information.

Improvement Plan

About Improvement Plans

We are taking the following actions to improve the performance of the program:

  • Developing a mechanism for program partners to report performance data to the program and incorporate this data into assessments of the program's performance.
  • Developing performance measures that assess the full scope of the program, including traditional law enforcement responsibilities and the Bureau's expanding role in national security areas.
  • Ensuring that budget requests are linked to program performance. Requests for additional funding should be directly linked with a measurable impact on program performance.
