Rating

What This Rating Means

NOT PERFORMING
Results Not Demonstrated

A rating of Results Not Demonstrated (RND) indicates that a program has not been able to develop acceptable performance goals or collect data to determine whether it is performing.
  • The program addresses a demonstrated need to improve U.S. history education. Results from the 2006 National Assessment of Educational Progress show some improvement since 2001 in percentages of students performing at or above the Basic level, but no significant change in the percentages performing at or above the Proficient level in their knowledge of American History.
  • The Department has created an annual program performance measure based on data from grantees that use experimental and/or quasi-experimental designs to evaluate program outcomes. Data are being collected through the program's national implementation study and are expected to be available in the summer of 2008.
  • The Department has addressed strategic planning deficiencies through the development of a long-term performance measure focused on gains in teacher content knowledge, as measured by nationally validated tests of U.S. history. Initial data are being collected through the program's national implementation study and are expected to be available in the summer of 2008.
