Global Change Research

The Global Change Research program is an assessment-oriented program designed to enhance the understanding of potential impacts of climate variability and change on the environment. The program provides stakeholders and policy makers with information to help support decision-making.

This rating describes a program that needs to set more ambitious goals, achieve better results, improve accountability or strengthen its management practices.
  • The program has long-term output performance measures that track publications but ambitious, long-term outcome measures are needed that capture the quality and usefulness of program products.
  • The program uses feedback from clients and independent reviewers to increase and maintain the alignment of program activities with research needs however further work is needed to improve the priority-setting process.
  • The program is an active participant in the interagency Climate Change Science Program which helps reduce the potential for duplication with other agencies and provides important input for program planning.
