Developmental Disabilities Grant Programs

This program gives grants to help individuals with developmental disabilities and their families in accessing services and other assistance. These funds are designed to promote independence, productivity, and inclusion of those with developmental disabilities.

Adequate

This rating describes a program that needs to set more ambitious goals, achieve better results, improve accountability or strengthen its management practices.
  • The program has a clear purpose and complements other public and private efforts to support individuals with developmental disabilities. For example, the program identifies unmet needs and gaps in service to help States create comprehensive and coordinated systems of support; protect the developmentally disabled against abuse and neglect; and provide education, training, and public information.
  • The program is managed well, as evidenced by strong financial and program management practices. For example, it evaluates annual program performance reports, visits grantees, and ensures that the program's funds are provided in a timely manner and spent appropriately.
  • While the program has performance measures, it lacks an efficiency measure to assess its cost-effectiveness and independent evaluations to assess its impact.
