National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration: Protected Areas

The purpose of this program is to conserve and enhance the ecological integrity and cultural legacy of marine protected areas. This is done through the direct management of 14 marine sanctuaries and efforts to work across Federal, State, and local entities to enhance planning and management of marine protected areas.

  • The program has a clear purpose and is well managed, but could cooperate better with other coastal and marine area management programs to achieve their common goals.
