Office on Women's Health

This program aims to improve the health and well-being of women by coordinating women's health efforts in the Dept. of Health and Human Services, supporting health programs, and giving out information through the National Women's Health Information Center. It focuses on prevention of health conditions that impact women.

Rating

What This Rating Means

NOT PERFORMING
Results Not Demonstrated

A rating of Results Not Demonstrated (RND) indicates that a program has not been able to develop acceptable performance goals or collect data to determine whether it is performing.
  • The program is effectively targeted to provide key information on women's health issues. It demonstrated a strong health information dissemination role, through its National Women's Health Information Center, an award winning website with customized women's health information.
  • The program was unable to show results in improving women's health, because it did not have outcome-based goals and measures and had not undertaken any independent outcome-oriented evaluations.
  • The program needs to strengthen its leadership in setting and leading a women's health agenda across all HHS women's health offices. Program resources are thinly spread across a number of Department initiatives and the program's impact may be stronger by focusing and coordinating resources on selective intiatives.

Improvement Plan

About Improvement Plans

We are taking the following actions to improve the performance of the program:

  • Developing performance goals to assess how well the program is achieving its mission.
  • Conducting independent evaluations to assess the program's impact on improving women's health (e.g. measuring gains in awareness among women of the early warning signs of a heart attack).
  • Focusing resources on priority women's health areas including heart disease, diabetes, HIV, mental health and lupus.
