White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair Nancy Sutley to Visit Bayou Bienvenue Coastal Restoration Site in Advance of President Obama’s Town Hall in New Orleans

New Orleans, LA — Nancy Sutley, Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, will visit the Cypress Marsh Restoration of the Bayou Bienvenue Central Wetland Unit to learn more about coastal restoration efforts in the region in advance of President Obama’s town hall in New Orleans on Thursday.  The wetlands restoration project integrates sustainability with mitigation measures and will restore approximately 10,000 acres of critical cypress wetlands using wetland assimilation of wastewater effluent. 

Chair Sutley will return to New Orleans on Monday for the Ocean Policy Task Force meeting at the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas & Entergy IMAX Theater.  The Task Force is charged with developing a recommendation for a national policy that ensures protection, maintenance, and restoration of oceans, our coasts and the Great Lakes.  It will also recommend a framework for improved stewardship, and effective coastal and marine spatial planning.
