Protecting America's Families: National Consumer Protection Week

One of the most effective ways to get the most for your money is to be an informed consumer. It’s a simple fact; when you know about your rights in the marketplace and any potential risks, you can recognize misinformation, deception, or scams that can chip away at your family’s economic stability, and that of your community.

For more than 10 years, National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW) has showcased the free resources that government agencies provide to our nation’s citizens. With its focus on the link between education and empowerment, NCPW 2011 continues this tradition.

NCPW partner organizations are supporting consumers in a variety of different ways, from promoting health, wellness, and product safety to providing resources that teach families about managing money and debt. Organizations have also committed to raising education standards, encouraging the efficient use of energy, and teaching individuals about technology to guarding against identity theft.

Federal government agencies and their state and local counterparts are helping our nation’s parents and teachers educate our kids about the importance of being safe online, helping our nation’s entrepreneurs make good business choices by offering free tools to facilitate compliance, and helping virtually every family make smart and sound choices. Whether families are thinking about diet and exercise, considering a loan for a major purchase, or trying to save and invest for their future, it is important that they have all of the right tools to make these critical decisions.
