Independence Day is a time of parades, picnics and fireworks, and I hope that you get to spend part of the weekend celebrating our nation's birthday with family and friends.
As much as we each enjoy these traditions, the 4th of July is also an opportunity to consider the meaning of liberty and freedom. While we know the Declaration of Independence acknowledges our "unalienable rights" to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, I can't help but think about the similarities that these principles hold with the work that we do on a daily basis. Our work is about ensuring that every American has an opportunity for success and happiness through safe and healthy communities, and that those who struggle are given a chance to a life free from the debilitating shackles of addiction.
I wish you all a Happy 4th of July.
