Deborah L. Rhode is the Ernest W. McFarland Professor of Law at Stanford Law School and Director of the Stanford Center on the Legal Profession. She is the author of over 20 books and 200 articles, many focusing on access to justice, pro bono service, and reforming the legal profession. As the President of the Association of American Law Schools, she led an initiative that established an Association Section on Pro Bono Service and Public Interest Law. As director of Stanford Law School’s Center on the Legal Profession and Chair of a Consortium on Access to Justice, she has been involved in coordinating forums, launching interdisciplinary research projects, and creating a website for integration of access materials into law school curricula. As founding President of the International Association of Legal Ethics, she has helped ensure that that pro bono service and equal justice initiatives are central to legal educators’ global agenda. In recognition of such work, she has received the American Bar Foundation’s W. M. Keck Foundation Award for Distinguished Scholarship on Legal Ethics and Professional Responsibility, and the American Bar Association’s Pro Bono Publico Award, and the Michael Franck Award from the Association’s Center on Professional Responsibility.
