Don LaForest has been a UAW member for 36 years and is the elected chairman of the UAW bargaining committee at the General Motors Detroit–Hamtramck Assembly Plant, which produces the ground-breaking Chevrolet Volt and Opel Ampera. The plant is also preparing to launch the all new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu in mid-2012 and has also begun early activities to launch the next generation Chevrolet Impala. Don is responsible for negotiating changes to the local agreement that improved competitiveness and attracted nearly $500 million in investment that will create over 2,000 new jobs in this facility over the next several years.
