Special Assistant to the President and Director of Private Sector Engagement
Robert Diamond serves as Special Assistant to the President and Director of Private Sector Engagement, where he provides strategic and management oversight of the Administration’s interaction with the private sector. He works with entrepreneurs, small business owners, and corporate and financial leaders, finding ways for the Administration to partner with the business community on efforts to spur job creation and our long-term economic competitiveness. Prior to joining the White House, Robert served as the Downstate Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for New York State Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. In this role, he supervised outreach and engagement with New York’s elected officials, community organizations, constituency groups and advocacy organizations. Prior to joining Governor’s Cuomo’s administration, Robert was the National Veterans & Military Families Vote Director for Obama for America 2012, the President’s re-election campaign. He simultaneously served as the New York State Director for Obama for America, overseeing all campaign operations across the state. Prior to the Obama campaign, Robert was a finance-industry executive based in New York City and before that he served for seven years as an officer in the United States Navy. A Surface Warfare Officer by training, he was stationed onboard the guided missile destroyer USS BULKELEY (DDG-84) and completed deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He served as the aide to the Navy's Chief of Legislative Affairs in the Pentagon, and as a naval liaison officer to the U.S. House of Representatives. A proud native of New York City, he is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy.
