Prescription Drug Caucus – March 10, 2011

Director Kerlikowske, joined by Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA- 45th) and Congressman Hal Rogers (KY-5th), briefed members of the Prescription Drug Caucus on the rising abuse of prescription drugs.  The Obama Administration has released the National Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention Plan which is comprised of four main elements: education, monitoring, proper disposal, and law enforcement.

Mental Health Caucus – March 17, 2011

Director Kerlikowske, joined by Congresswoman Grace Napolitano (CA-38th), held a briefing for members of the House Mental Health Caucus to discuss prescription drug abuse, youth drug prevention, and the importance of understanding co-occurring disorders.  The 2011 National Drug Control Strategy supports evidence-based, integrated approaches in prevention, treatment, and recovery for individuals with co-occurring disorders.  There is also a renewed focus on drug use prevention through a public health approach.  

Addiction, Treatment and Recovery Caucus – April 6, 2011

Director Kerlikowske, joined by Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-17th) and Congressman John Sullivan (OK-1st), held a briefing for members of the House Addiction, Treatment, and Recovery Caucus to discuss prescription drug abuse, substance abuse recovery, and the importance of a comprehensive and balanced drug control strategy to reduce drug use and its consequences in America.
