Statement from White House Drug Policy Director Gil Kerlikowske on Georgia’s New Prescription Drug Monitoring Law

Washington, D.C. – Today, Gil Kerlikowske, Director of National Drug Control Policy, released the following statement concerning Georgia’s New Prescription Drug Monitoring Law.

“I congratulate Governor Deal and the State of Georgia for signing this prescription drug monitoring program into law. As public health and safety officials in Georgia know all too well, the abuse of prescription drugs imposes a tremendous burden on the residents of Georgia. This vital piece of legislation is a tremendous step forward in combating our national prescription drug abuse epidemic. It will save lives by identifying, deterring, and preventing drug abuse and diversion, while at the same time allowing access to legitimate use of prescription drugs.”
