Declaración del Presidente sobre España

Michelle y yo quedamos impactados y entristecidos por la noticia del trágico descarrilamiento de un tren ayer en Santiago de Compostela, España. En nombre del pueblo estadounidense, ofrecemos nuestro más sentido pésame y condolencias a las familias y seres queridos de las más de 80 personas que perdieron sus vidas. Les deseamos una completa recuperación a los que fueron heridos. También ofrecemos nuestra más sincera gratitud al Gobierno de España y al equipo de rescate que están trabajando para localizar a los desaparecidos y atender a los heridos - que incluyen al menos seis estadounidenses. Hoy el pueblo americano se entristece con nuestros amigos españoles, ellos están en nuestros pensamientos y en nuestras oraciones. Estamos dispuestos a ofrecer cualquier ayuda que podamos en los próximos días difíciles.

Statement by the President on Spain

Michelle and I were shocked and saddened by the news of yesterday’s tragic train derailment in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. On behalf of the American people, we offer our deepest sympathies and condolences to the families and loved ones of the more than 80 people who lost their lives.  We extend our wishes for a full recovery to those who were hurt.  We also offer our heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Spain and to the rescue personnel who are working to locate the missing and treat the injured – including at least six Americans. Today the American people grieve with our Spanish friends, who are in our thoughts and prayers.  We stand ready to provide any assistance we can in the difficult days ahead.
