Upcoming Guidance for First Lady Michelle Obama on The Official State Visit of The People's Republic of China

The White House * 11:00 AM ET – The Office of the First Lady will host a press preview in the State Dining Room in advance of the China State Dinner. There will be an opportunity for photos and video footage of sample place settings, as well as officials on-hand to answer questions on background. Please note that the First Lady will not be in attendance.

Friday evening’s dinner marks the ninth State Visit of the Obama Administration; previous visits include: India in November 2009, Mexico in May 2010, China in January 2011, Germany in June 2011, Korea in October 2011, the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland in March 2012, France in February 2014, and Japan in April 2015.

Washington, DC * 10:30 AM ET – As part of the official State Visit of the People’s Republic of China to the United States, First Lady Michelle Obama will host Madame Peng Liyuan, First Lady of the People’s Republic of China, for a visit to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo. The First Ladies will visit the Panda House to commemorate over four decades of scientific collaboration between the United States and China around giant panda conservation. While at the National Zoo, Mrs. Obama and Madame Peng Liyuan will make a special announcement.

Joining the First Ladies will be students from the local Washington Yu Ying Public Charter School – a Chinese-immersion, International Baccalaureate, elementary school in Washington, DC, which Mrs. Obama visited in 2014. Yu Ying – meaning nurturing excellence – takes its name from a groundbreaking girls school founded in 1911 in Beijing, China.
