Readout of Vice President Biden’s Call with Guatemalan President-elect James Morales

Vice President Biden called Guatemalan President-elect James Morales to congratulate him on his electoral victory and to reaffirm the steadfast support of the United States for Guatemala.  The Vice President highlighted the importance of the Alliance for Prosperity and the work of the International Commission Against Impunity in Guatemala, and offered to work personally with the Morales Administration and the other leaders of the region to combat corruption, promote shared prosperity, address insecurity, and advance regional energy integration efforts.  President-elect Morales and the Vice President reaffirmed their commitment to the strong partnership between the United States and Guatemala and agreed to stay in touch in the weeks and months ahead.
