Statement by NSC Spokesperson Ned Price on Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Lisa O. Monaco’s Meeting with French Presidential Military Advisor Admiral Bernard Rogel

Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Lisa O. Monaco met French Presidential Military Advisor Admiral Bernard Rogel on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly on 20 September. Ms. Monaco expressed appreciation for French contributions to the Counter-ISIL Coalition efforts in Syria and Iraq, and in particular the second deployment of the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle to support the Counter-ISIL campaign. Ms. Monaco and Admiral Rogel agreed that while ISIL has suffered extensive defeats, it remains a global threat, and they committed to continuing bilateral counterterrorism cooperation. Ms. Monaco and Admiral Rogel discussed U.S. and French counterterrorism efforts in Africa, to include the need to maintain focus on the threat posed by Boko Haram. They also affirmed the importance of deepening cooperation on cyber threats.
