President Obama Nominates Justice Louis Butler to Serve on the District Court Bench
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, President Obama announced that he has nominated Justice Louis Butler to serve on the United States District Court bench. Butler is a nominee for U.S. District Court Judge for the Western District of Wisconsin.
"Louis Butler has dedicated his career to public service," said President Obama. "And in so doing, he has displayed unwavering integrity and an unyielding commitment to justice. I am confident that he will serve the people of Wisconsin with distinction as a United States District Court Judge, and I look forward to his appointment to the federal bench."
Justice Louis Butler: Nominee for the Western District of Wisconsin
Louis Butler served as a Justice on the Wisconsin Supreme Court from 2004 to 2008. Before his appointment to the Supreme Court in 2004, he spent ten years as a municipal court judge in Milwaukee, and then two years as a Milwaukee trial court judge. He started his legal career with the Wisconsin State Public Defender, where he worked from 1979 to 1992. Butler received a B.A. in Government from Lawrence University in 1973, and his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1977. He currently serves as a Justice in Residence at the University of Wisconsin Law School. He received a unanimous well-qualified rating from the ABA and is a nominee for U.S. District Court Judge for the Western District of Wisconsin.
