Readout on the Vice President’s Meeting with Chairman Wu Bangguo
The Vice President met yesterday with Wu Bangguo, the Chairman of China’s National People’s Congress.  The Vice President and Chairman Wu discussed the overall state of the U.S.-China relationship, emphasizing the desire of both sides to strengthen cooperation and to build a positive and comprehensive relationship.  The Vice President also stressed the importance of increasing the frequency of exchanges between U.S. and Chinese policymakers.  The two also discussed important global issues, including North Korea, Iran, and global nuclear security issues. The Vice President stressed the urgency of addressing the Iranian nuclear program.  
After the meeting, the President escorted Chairman Wu to the Oval Office for a brief discussion.  He talked to Chairman Wu about the importance of the U.S.-China relationship, the international financial crisis, and the need for greater coordination in facing the challenges posed by climate change.
