Vice President Biden Arrives in Latin America for first White House trip to the Region

Washington, DC – The Vice President arrived today for a four-day trip to South and Central America to consult with Latin American leaders gathered in Chile and Costa Rica to discuss the upcoming Summit of the Americas. Dr. Jill Biden has joined the Vice President on this trip.

In Chile, the Vice President will attend the Progressive Governance conference, which will be attended by the Presidents of Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay, and the Prime Ministers of Spain, Norway and the United Kingdom. The Vice President will also hold bilateral meetings with Uruguay’s President Tabare Vazquez; Argentina’s President Christina Fernandez de Kirchner; British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Chile’s President Michelle Bachelet. The Vice President will also attend a dinner in his honor at La Moneda hosted by President Bachelet.

In Costa Rica, the Vice President will hold a bilateral meeting with President Oscar Arias. Afterwards, the Vice President will participate in a multilateral meeting with Central American leaders hosted by President Arias.

The Vice President will return to Washington, DC late Monday evening.
