Chief of Staff
Andrea Taverna became Chief of Staff of the Council of Economic Advisers in August 2015. She has worked at the Council since 2013, previously serving as Deputy Chief of Staff and Special Assistant to the Chairman. Taverna holds a B.A. in public policy from the University of Michigan.
Director of Macroeconomic Forecasting
Steven Braun has been CEA's Director of Macroeconomic Forecasting since 1996. Prior to his current position, Dr. Braun was a senior economist at the Council, a senior economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, and an economist at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Director of Statistical Office
Adrienne Pilot has been CEA's Director of Statistical Office since 2007. Previously, she worked in the Office of Statistical and Science Policy at the Office of Management and Budget and as a regional economist with the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
Chief Economist
Matt Fiedler specializes in health care. Before entering his current position, Fiedler was a senior economist at CEA. He received a BA from Swarthmore College and a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University. He worked previously at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
Senior Economists
Greg Leiserson specializes in tax and retirement policy. He received a BA from Swarthmore College and a Ph.D. in economics from MIT. He previously worked at the U.S. Treasury, where he was an Economist in the Office of Tax Analysis.
Nirupama Rao specializes in labor and fiscal policy. Rao completed her Ph.D. in economics at MIT in June 2010 where she previously earned her undergraduate degree. She is a recipient of the National Tax Association Dissertation Award. Prior to graduate school, she worked at the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Rao is on leave from NYU's Wagner School of Public Service where she is an Assistant Professor of Economics and Public Policy.
Burt Porter specializes in the economics of financial markets. He received a BS from Cornell University, an MBA from Emory University, and a Ph.D. in Finance from The University of Chicago. He is on detail from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission where he is a Senior Financial Economist in the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis.
Chris Otrok specializes in macroeconomics. He received a BA in Economics from Davidson College and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Iowa. He is on leave from the University of Missouri, where he is the Sam B. Cook Professor of Economics. He is also on leave from his position as Research Fellow at the Federal Reserve Bank of St Louis. Otrok was previously a Professor Economics at the University of Virginia.
Katheryn Russ specializes in international macroeconomics. She received a BA from The College of William and Mary, an M.S. in Agricultural and Applied Economics from Virginia Tech, and a Ph.D. in Economics from Johns Hopkins University. She is on leave from the University of California, Davis, where she is an Associate Professor of Economics, and she is a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research
Laura Giuliano specializes in labor and education. She received a BA from the University of Virginia, and MA in International Relations from Yale University, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley. She is on leave from the University of Miami, where she is an Associate Professor of Economics.
Aaron Sojourner specializes in labor-market institutions and human capital. He received a BA from Yale University in History, a masters in Public Policy Analysis from the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. in Economics from Northwestern University. He is on leave from the University of Minnesota, where he is an assistant professor in the Carlson School of Management.
Victor Bennett specializes in innovation, technology, and industrial organization. He received a BA with Honors from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in Business and Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to graduate school he worked at Google. He is on leave from Duke University, where he works as an Assistant Professor in the Fuqua School of Business.
Sheila Olmstead specializes in environmental and energy economics. She received a BA from the University of Virginia, an M.P.Aff. from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Ph.D. in public policy from Harvard University. She is on leave from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin, where she is an Associate Professor.
William Congdon specializes in labor and behavioral economics. He received a BA from Dartmouth College and a Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University. He is on leave from ideas42.
