Abraham Alvarez

Student, Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory
Abraham “Abe” Alvarez is a 15-year-old 10th grader at Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory in San Francisco, where he was born and raised. Having overcome many hardships and challenges in his life and having grown up with a single mother in the Mission District, he has never been more focused on success than he is today. This summer he applied for an internship through Future Graduates, one of many programs through San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee’s Summer Jobs+ Campaign, which focused on helping youth attain paid summer work experiences. Future Graduates is a partnership between a non-profit called San Francisco Citizens initiative for Technology and Innovation, created to leverage the power of the technology community around civic action, and the San Francisco Police Foundation. Future Graduates is dedicated to helping San Francisco high school students graduate and prepare for future careers in the field of technology. Abraham was placed with the technology start up Media Relevance for an eight week paid internship. Abraham was one of four interns working on customer development to understand how both student and consumer behavior pertains to watching videos. Additionally, he helped the Media Relevance Team define this new experience for his own generation, as well as that of high school students by conducting interviews and creating mockups. Abraham is interested in taking his technological experience with Media Relevance into the field of health, potentially by becoming an eye doctor.
