Elvira Diaz

Elvira Diaz was born in México City, immigrated to the United States in 1986 and became a US citizen in 1992. Elvira has two children, Shirley Diaz and Jessica (Christian) Arroyo. Committed to reaching the Latino community through various platforms -- since 2005, Elvira has hosted a Spanish TV show “El Pan de Cada Dia” on an access television channel in Carson City and SNCAT in Reno, Nevada; has been a radio personality on two local radio stations in Reno, Nevada; and written a Spanish column in a local newspaper, Ahora Latino Journal. Elvira also belongs to PICO and ACTIONN, both groups aiming to align faith leaders with justice causes. She has worked with PLAN (Progressive League Alliance of Nevada) since 2010, organizing health events, Immigration advocacy, LGBT awareness and advocacy, and started the Campaign Tu Voto Cuenta to register Latino voters. A committed volunteer for the Catholic Church, Elvira has also worked in the pharmaceutical industry for several years. Public service has been the common thread throughout Elvira's life -- for the past 20 years, she has opened doors for the Latino community allowing health access through several Latino Health Care events in Costa Mesa, CA and Carson City and Reno, NV.
