Steve Crawford has been in education for 13 years as an elementary teacher, assistant principal and now a principal. He first experienced the positive and powerful father-figure influence as a teacher and never quite got over that amazing feeling. So, when Steve became an assistant principal he became involved in the WatchDOGS program. WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is the father involvement initiative of the National Center for Fathering that organizes fathers and father figures in order to provide positive male role models for the students and to enhance school security.
Immediately seeing the power of the program in providing an avenue for fathers to be involved in their schools, he took hold of the opportunity and began to spread the word throughout Leander ISD in Central Texas. He became a spokesperson and guide to help others foster and grow their programs. His one program has now spread to twenty elementary schools and two middle schools within his District. In addition, he helps scaffold programs in neighboring Districts.
