A breast cancer survivor, Amy Bonoff attended the National Breast Cancer Coalition’s Project LEAD Institute, an advanced course on the biology and epidemiology of breast cancer, and a whole world of new opportunities for breast cancer research and advocacy opened for her.
Amy has concentrated on quality care and medical research as advocacy interests. She co-chaired the NBCC committee on quality care and was honored to be asked to serve on the Agency for Healthcare and Quality (AHRQ) Effective Healthcare Program Stakeholder Group. She is presently a member of a subgroup addressing uncertainty and how best to educate patients and clinicians in the decision making process, given imperfect evidence.
Amy is actively involved in NBCC’s Breast Cancer Deadline 2020, with the goal of ending breast cancer by that date. She is a Team Leader for the Artemis Project, a five year strategic plan to develop a preventive breast cancer vaccine, and will participate in NBCC’s Prevention Summit in October.
She has reviewed research grant proposals for the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program and participated in the Era of Hope conference to publicly disclose the results from all the grants funded over a multi-year period. She is also actively involved in a DoD funded study combining immunology and radiotherapy.
Amy has served as a Project LEAD mentor to new Institute graduates, helping them to understand the difficult program and advising and supporting their future advocacy activities.
Amy is also active in the Love/Avon Army of Women Scientific Advisory Committee, SHARE’s Project LEAD graduate program and the SHARE hotline.
