Bob served as Executive Director of the International Rescue Committee in San Diego. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and 22 US cities, the IRC restores safety, dignity, and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. For refugees who cannot safely return to their countries and who qualify for entry into the United States, the IRC assists in their resettlement. The IRC in San Diego provides initial resettlement services for approximately 1,100 refugees annually and serves an additional 5,000 people through other programs. IRC’s economic empowerment, education, immigration, and food security programs are available to all members of the community, both refugees and immigrations, and IRC’s wide variety of programs works to meet the needs of a diverse clientele. Their clients include medical doctors from Iraq and preliterate Burmese farmers who spent 20 plus years in a refugee camp before coming to the US.
