Champions of Change
Seawall Development, based in Baltimore, Maryland, redevelops historic city buildings as office space for non-profits and housing for teachers. An example of their work is Miller’s Court, the historic Census Building in Baltimore that they converted into a $19 million mixed-use apartment and office building, using a mixture of debt equity and $13 million in public money. Miller’s Court now houses a regional office of Teach For America, and is 100% leased by young teachers participating in the program. Prior to starting Seawall Development with his father, Donald, Thibault was in South Africa where he helped start a nonprofit program, now called PeacePlayers International, that used basketball to bring together children on different sides of racial and religious conflicts in South Africa, Northern Ireland, Cyrpus, and in the Middle East.
