Jeremiah J. Lowney, Jr. is the Founding President of The Haitian Health Foundation (HHF), an outreach to southwestern Haiti, established in 1982, that provides full health care and disease prevention programs in Jeremie, Haiti. HHF’s “umbrella of care” provides for over 225,000 of the hemisphere's poorest people. HHF employs nearly 200 full-time employees, mostly Haitian. With an administrative overhead of less than nine percent, the outreach of HHF includes a full-service outpatient facility, an inpatient Malnutrition Treatment Facility and Maternal Waiting Home and several rural hub clinics, along with nutrition programs, house and latrine building/restoration and animal distribution. HHF also recently completed construction of 5 “Akamil” production plants (a high-protein porridge made from local rice and beans), providing nutritional support while supporting the local economy. Dr. Lowney has worked as a volunteer for HHF for over 30 years.
