Champions of Change
Kevin Gay moved into the role of principal of Leslie County High School (LCHS), a persistently low achieving school in Hyden, Kentucky, in the fall of 2010. Mr. Gay embraced the idea that accountability belongs to all stakeholders in the organization and he holds all accountable, including himself. He is a rural Eastern Kentucky native who believes that poverty is not a permanent condition and students at Leslie County High School should be competitive with anyone else in the world. Mr. Gay is proud to have led LCHS to sixteenth on the state’s Transitional Academic Index and believes student success will only continue to improve based on obtaining and analyzing data to make decisions.
