Freddie Winston, Founder, F&L Construction.
For Freddie Winston, success in business is played on his hometown field – literally. Born and raised in the D.C. area, Freddie remained there when he founded and developed F&L Construction, Inc., becoming a successful entrepreneur in his home town.
Freddie founded the company in 1991, and has established an impressive record of service in general construction, solid waste handling and recycling, with a noteworthy portfolio of clients and projects, doing the pre-construction demolition work for the Washington Nationals new stadium in 2006. The company offers the full scope of services from project planning through post-occupancy, including demolition, renovation/retrofitting, and construction. Some of the company’s other Washington area clients include D.C. public schools, nearby U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army bases, and the White House and Executive Office Building. In early 2011, F&L was awarded a $34 million solid-waste contract for all Washington-area U.S. Navy facilities.
Freddie credits his firm’s strong performance with assistance F&L received from SBA’s Washington Metro District Office. F&L is a HUBZone business, and in 2001, enrolled in the 8(a) program, graduating in 2010. In 2004 F & L secured a $100,000 revolving line of credit through Bank America through the SBA 7(a) loan guaranty program.
