Letters to President Obama

From

Ann Marie Chrisman, Westport, Connecticut

July 25, 2014

Dear President Obama,

I am writing a letter of gratitude and much thanks.

I am a 51-year old mother of 3 children and a licensed massage therapist dedicated to nurturing and healing. The Affordable Health Care Act has saved my life. As a self-employed single mother, I could not afford health insurance insurance. The Access Health Agency in Connecticut helped to enroll me and my children in the Husky Program - Medicaid in Connecticut. I was finally able to have a physical and a gynecological check-up, which included a mammogram. The mammogram showed an irregularity. I received a biopsy and now I will have minor surgery to remove the DCIS. The cancer has been detected at a very early stage, which, with a 98% survival rate, has saved my life! Moreover, the cost of this screening and minor procedure will be far less than the cost of treating a more developed cancer.

Thank you, Mr President, for assuring the passage of this critical legislation. You have profoundly improved the quality of my life and I am very grateful to you and your staff for effecting this change.

Sincerely,

Ann Chrisman
