Read-out of President Obama’s Call with French President Sarkozy

President Obama called President Sarkozy on the morning of October 24, 2009 to consult on the Iranian nuclear issue. President Obama thanked President Sarkozy for France’s close cooperation throughout the negotiations in Vienna towards an agreement that responds to Iran’s request for fuel for the Tehran Research Reactor. President Obama and President Sarkozy affirmed their full support for the IAEA agreement and discussed the importance of all parties accepting the proposal so that implementation can begin as soon as possible. The two leaders expressed U.S.-French unity on Iran, and agreed to continue their close consultations in the weeks ahead.
