Readout of Call on Saturday between President Obama and President Abdullah Gul of Turkey

President Obama and President Abdullah Gul of Turkey spoke by telephone today about a range of issues, reflecting the broad strategic dialogue the United States conducts with this key ally.  The two Presidents discussed the historic progress that is being made on normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia, and the importance of maintaining the momentum in this important effort. They reviewed the situation in Afghanistan.  The President expressed appreciation for Turkey’s contributions, and the two leaders agreed to work closely together in the critical weeks ahead. They also discussed the need for sustained engagement in resolving the Cyprus problem and in promoting stability in Bosnia-Herzegovina.  The two Presidents agreed on the importance of continued consultations on these and other key topics on the global security agenda.
