James Liao

James Liao is the Parsons Foundation Professor of the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department, at the University of California, Los Angeles. As a leading expert in Metabolic Engineering and Synthetic Biology, Liao has developed several microbial technologies for production of fuel and chemicals. Most recently, he and his team have created an integrated process for converting electricity and carbon dioxide to a gasoline substitute. He was also a recipient of the 2010 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award.
