Agency Application Programming Interfaces (APIs):

• Airport Delays:  The Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)’s Airport Delays API provides information from traffic controllers about the status and delay information of airplanes.
• Alternative Fuel Stations: The Department of Energy’s Alternative Fueling Station API provides location based information about alternative fueling locations across the United States. 
• Building Conservation: The Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s API provides information on energy conservation measures in order to create building energy models. 
• Cause Logic Service: The Cause Logic Service, an API from DoD provides ‘consistent inclusion of provisions and clauses in procurement documents’ to allow DoD and its components to quickly process contracts as well as improve reliability and decrease human error.  
• Census API: The Census Bureau’s continually growing API now offers three decades worth of popular demographic data.  In less than a year, they’ve issued 2,600 API keys and have a vibrant forum with 800 developers engaged in sharing best practices and lessons learned with each other.  
• Child Safety Seat Inspections: In order to help people find their nearest Child Safety Seat Inspections station, the Department of Transportation has created an API with this information.  These stations provide information and inspection of proper safety seat installation.
• Consumer Complaints: The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) provides data through an API that is based off of information found in the Consumer Complaint Database.
• Department of Labor Datasets: The Labor Department APIs provide instant access to over 100 important economic indicators such as employment numbers, wage statistics, and consumer price indexes.
• Electricity Costs: The Department of Energy’s API provides costs, generation, transmission, delivery, and monitoring information on electricity.
• Earthquake Feeds: The Department of Interior’s US Geological Survey offers real-time API access to earthquake notifications across the world.  
• Electricity Data:  There are a number of APIs covering electricity data systems from the Department of Energy.
• Energy Star:  The Energy Star is a joint API project between the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  It includes comprehensive product lists, vendors, and energy consumption of appliances and other household goods. 
• Experience API: The Experience API, released by the Department of Defense’s Advanced Distributed Learning project, is powering next-generation education tools that allow new models of teaching and learning.  
• Farmer’s Market Directory: The Farmer’s Market Directory API from USDA takes one of the department’s most popular datasets, containing over 7,800 market listings for all 50 states, and makes it available for app developers to easily build into their next killer app.
• Federal Government Directory: GSA’s Agency Directory API provides the details of each federal agency, where it fits into the organization of government, and how to contact them.  
• Greenbook API: USAID’s Greenbook API provides authoritative data detailing U.S. economic and military assistance by country for the last sixty-five years.
• HealthData.gov API: At HHS, they are releasing so much data and so many APIs, they created an API of their APIs!  The HealthData.gov API provides programmatic access to the contents and metadata of the HHS data repository.  
• Healthcare Finder API: At HHS, the Healthcare Finder API offers dynamic access to local information on public option, individual plan, and small group insurance plans.  
• Hearing Office Wait Time: The Social Security Administration’s Hearing Office Wait Time APIs give up-to-date insight into helpful information that impacts individuals seeking in-person assistance with their benefit or disability needs.  
• Home Energy Optimization:  This API from the Department of Energy provides information to home owners about energy use and how to optimize their energy consumption.
• International Loan Guarantee:  The Development Credit Authority API is comprised of multiple datasets from over ten years of bank loan guarantees.  The Development Credit Authority is part of the United State Agency for International Development (USAID).
• Mars Weather:  NASA has developed the {MAAS} API to provide information on the weather data being transmitted by the Curiosity Rover on Mars.  This API was developed as part of the Space Apps Challenge 2013.
• Millennium Challenge Corporation: This API provides information on financial and performance data of global development activities from the Millennium Challenge Corporation.
• Public Inspection Files: The FCC’s Public Inspection Files API allows quick, modern access to important election year information about who is buying political ads where.  
• Recalls API:  This is a joint project between multiple agencies to provide recall information to the public.  These APIs are focused on consumer safety websites or applications, news organizations, and websites or magazines targeted to specific audiences, such as parents.
• The Learning Registry: This API is based on an open-source database of information about online learning resources maintained by the Department of Education.
• Train Safety: The Federal Railroad Administration’s API provides historical statistics on rail-related train accidents, injuries and fatalities, highway-rail crossing collisions, and operational information.
• USAJOBs: The Office of Personnel Management’s USAJOBs API offers dynamic access to the employment opportunities across the federal government, spurring better and faster hiring.  
• Vehicle Safety Recall: The Department of Transportation’s Vehicle Safety Recall API provides information about safety defects and compliance issues with current laws.
• VetSuccess API: The VA’s VetSuccess API allow employers to automatically post jobs to VetSuccess.gov, a hub to connect veterans and companies that are looking to hire.
