Agency Mobile Apps / Mobile Sites

To jump-start the transition to mobile platforms, each agency has mobile-enabled at least two priority customer-facing services in the past twelve months. The following are highlights of mobile services agencies released under the Digital Government Strategy (PDF/ HTML5).   • America’s Economy App: The Department of Commerce’s Census Bureau developed a mobile app called “America’s Economy” in the iOS version.  This app provides real updates for 16 key economic indicators released from the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and Bureau of Economic Analysis.
  • Arlington National Cemetery Explorer App: The Department of Defense has created a mobile application for iOS, BlackBerry, or Android to enable family members and the public to explore the Arlington National Cemetery's events, locate gravesites, or other points of interest.
  • Border Wait Times App: Customs and Border Patrol’s mobile-optimized border wait time page displays the estimated wait times for reaching the primary inspection booth, the first point of contact with CBP when crossing the Canada/U.S. and Mexico/U.S. land borders.
  • College Navigator: College Navigator is a web-based tool for searching all colleges and universities in the United States. This site has been optimized for mobile access. 
  • Commerce.gov Website: The Department of Commerce has mobile optimized their public website Commerce.gov.
  • DOT.gov Website: The Department of Transportation’s website, http://www.dot.gov, has been optimized for mobile use. This allows customers to view the website regardless of what device they may be using to access information.   
  • Energy.gov Website: The Energy Department’s main site, Energy.gov and its contents, are accessible with mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets.
  • Federal Government Operating Status:  The Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) Operating Status iPhone app provides Washington D.C. federal employees with the current operating status according to OPM.
  • Foreign Service Careers: The Department of State has developed a mobile application designed to increase awareness among U.S. citizens about the Department and its Foreign Service career opportunities. The app provides access to more than 500 questions from previous Foreign Service tests.  The app will also help you locate a recruitment event or contact a Diplomat in Residence near you.  There is an iOS and Android version of the app.
  • How’s My Waterway?:  The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has upgraded the How’s My Waterway website into a mobile optimized site.  This site uses geolocation to assist the public in determining how water issues affect them locally and a color coding system to determine how clean that waterway is.  
  • IRS2Go:  IRS2Go is a Department of Treasury IRS-developed app designed to help taxpayers in several ways. The app lets taxpayers check on the status of their refund, sign up for helpful tax tips or get the most recent IRS Twitter feeds.
  • Medicare.gov Site – The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) now provides the Medicare.gov site in a mobile optimized form. This site is focused on providing information on Medicare beneficiaries, caregivers, and advocates. 
  • Million Hearts™ Site - Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has re-lauched the Million Hearts™ site as a mobile optimized site. This site’s goal is to bring together communities, health systems, nonprofit organizations, federal agencies, and private sector partners from across the country to fight heart disease and stroke. 
  • Psychological First Aid:  This iOS mobile app can assist responders who provide psychological first aid (PFA) to adults, families, and children in times of disaster or emergencies.
  • PTSD Coach: PTSD Coach was designed for Veterans and military Service Members who have, or may have, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This app provides users with education about PTSD, information about professional care, a self-assessment for PTSD, opportunities to find support, and tools that can help users manage the stresses of daily life with PTSD. This app was developed by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs.
  • Real Time Earthquake Information:  The Department of the Interior’s U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS) new mobile optimized site provides real-time information for earthquakes around the world. A one-line summary is provided for each earthquake, and a detailed compilation of event-related data is provided with links to download each event-related product.
  • SaferBus:  The Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) released an updated version of the SaferBus App and released an android version. The app provides information to view and access the safety performance of commercial motor carriers including motor coach and bus companies. It also provides a way for the public to report complaints.
  • SaferCar: The Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) SaferCar app provides important information and functions that will help you make informed safety decisions involving your vehicle including information on recalls and complaints, 5-star safety ratings, installing child seats, and more. This app is available on the iOS platform.
  • Social Security.gov Site:  The Social Security Administration (SSA) now provides the SocialSecurity.gov site in a mobile optimized form allowing the public to access this information with any device.
  • SSI Mobile Wage Reporting:  This application will allow a Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipient, a recipient's representative payee, or an individual whose income helps an SSI recipient meet their basic needs (like a parent or a spouse) report their monthly wages to Social Security from the convenience of their smartphone. This app is available on the Android platform.
  • TRIP: TSA's mobile application (Traveler Redress Inquiry Program (TRIP)) will allow citizens to submit and track Traveler Redress inquiries and complaints using the mobile optimized site.
  • TRICARE Mobile Website: The Department of Defense has made the TRICARE website mobile optimized. This allows military personnel, military retirees, and their dependents access to health benefits including information on their category, plan, and region. New beneficiaries can answer a series of questions to identify which TRICARE plan they may be eligible for.
  • USAJobs:  The USAJOBS iPhone application, by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), puts the power of searching for a Federal job at your fingertips. This application is a companion to USAJOBS.gov, the official job site of the US Federal Government and your one-stop source for Federal jobs and employment information.
