Jawando leads OPE’s education outreach efforts and also works on African American outreach. He most recently served as Director of Boards and Commissions at the U.S. Department of Education. He was responsible for over twenty advisory boards that advised the Secretary on a range of education policy issues. Prior to the Department of Education, he served as education policy advisor and judiciary legislative assistant for Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio. Prior to working for Senator Brown, Jawando worked first for then Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and more recently as a Legislative Aide in the office of Senator Barack Obama. Jawando is a native Washingtonian and is a graduate of Catholic University, and the Columbus School of Law, Catholic University.
