    Today, North Korea said that it has conducted a nuclear test in violation of international law. It appears to also have attempted a short range missile launch. These actions, while not a surprise given its statements and actions to date, are a matter of grave concern to all nations.

  • Readout on President Obama's call to Prime Minister Singh of India

    Today, President Obama called Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of India to congratulate him on being sworn-in for a second term as prime minister. He also congratulated India on successfully completing the largest democratic exercise that the world has ever seen, calling it a testament to the strength of India’s democracy. The two leaders recalled their warm meeting in London on April 2 and discussed their mutual desire to strengthen U.S.-India relations and work together to address common global challenges, such as the economic downturn, climate change, and counterterrorism. President Obama also invited the Prime Minister to visit Washington.
