For the past twenty years, Sheena Curley has given her vacation time to work as the director of the Knoxville Kiwanis Fresh Air Camp, an overnight camp for underprivileged children. The Fresh Air Camp is recognized as one of the most successful programs in Kiwanis International, serving underprivileged, "at-risk" and disabled children, and providing a wonderful summer camp experience without charge.

Sanjuana Zavala is a first-generation college student at the University of Texas- Brownsville, and an active member of Circle K International. Her commitment and passion for service led Sanjuana to meet extraordinary individuals who she remembers every day, inspiring her to keep serving her community.

John Mayfield battled drug and alcohol addition, but was able to get his life on track when he found fulfillment through philanthropy. Following in his father's footsteps, he became a member of a local Kiwanis club, and the experience ended up changing his life. His main effort is supporting The Eliminate Project, raising money for the vaccines, supplies and education that will help eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus among some of the world’s poorest and hardest-to-reach families.

Danny and Pam Spitler traveled to Cambodia in 2005 for a three-day tour of the temples of Angkor Wat. Their tour guide shared with them his dream of building a small school in a village where no school existed, and soon after the Spitlers created the Spitler School in Cambodia under the tour guide's leadership.

Stephanie Phillips' mother is alive today because of the medical care and 12 units of blood she received during heart operations. This experience inspired Stephanie to become a nurse and volunteer for the American Red Cross.

Monica Owens is a Community Resilience Coordinator for the Red Cross in South Mississippi, pilot testing a new strategy for the Red Cross to build resilience at the community level by leveraging and connecting community networks.

For more than 25 years, through various posts including Director of Emergency Services and now as Chief Executive Officer for the South Louisiana Region, Kay Wilkins has helped respond to many disasters, including the worst natural disaster to strike this country in decades, Hurricane Katrina.

In 2004, Brian Boyle survived a near fatal car accident, changing his outlook on life forever. After receiving 36 blood transfusions, 13 plasma treatments, several operations, and months of recovery, Brian now runs marathons and participates in Ironman races across the country on behalf of the American Red Cross.

Joshua Williams was given twenty dollars to spend on the way to Church one day, and he chose to give it to a homeless man who looked hungry. Soon after, Joshua was inspired to start a foundation to serve the homeless in his community, and raise awareness about hunger and poverty.

In 2010, Erik Schultz helped launch Thriive, a nonprofit organization that pursues an innovative approach to food security in diverse worldwide locations such as Vietnam, Kenya, Palestine, and Nicaragua. Focusing on the growing needs of small-scale agricultural and food products businesses, such as, smallholder farms and livestock operations, Thriive helps grow the entire food chain, from producers to consumers, making them more resilient and self-reliant.

Dana Harvey is the Executive Director of Mandela MarketPlace, a community-directed and community-owned local food system that includes a cooperative grocery retail, local produce distribution center, produce service for corner markets, network of urban production farms and a youth leadership program that is a model for other communities. With the grocery stores, Mandela MarketPlace promotes healthy and locally produced foods, and provides jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities to residents who otherwise may not have a chance to own a business.

Dr. Govind Kannan believes that the sustainability of small farms is the key to revitalizing rural communities and strengthening food security worldwide. Govind educates minoirty and underprivileged students, conducting applied research and outreach, to empower small, limited resource, and underrepresented farmers with the knowledge and technical skills needed to sustain successful agricultural enterprises.

After completing his service as U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia, Kenneth M. Quinn returned home to Iowa to lead the World Food Prize Foundation. Fueled by Dr. Norman E. Borlaug’s legacy, Kenneth strives to eradicate hunger and poverty through the World Food Prize recognition, inspiring Nobel-like achievement.
