The Act gives local and state governments the flexibility to develop strategies to prevent the onset of chronic diseases, including those associated with obesity and tobacco use.

The new competitive grant allows communities to tailor programs that make sense for them.  The Act also saves money for states by allowing them to purchase vaccines under CDC contracts.
