  • President Obama Announces Additional Treasury Department Nominations

    President Barack Obama today announced his intent to nominate Neal S. Wolin to be Deputy Secretary of the Treasury and Lael Brainard to be Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs. In addition, the President announced that Stuart A. Levey, the current Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, will remain in that position. The appointments announced today fill three of the four most senior Senate-confirmed Treasury Department positions beneath Secretary Geithner.

  • Vice President Biden Announces Key Staff Appointments

    Vice President Joe Biden announced the following key staff appointments today: Edward DeSeve, Special Advisor to the President, Assistant to the Vice President and Special Advisor to the OMB Director for Implementation of the Recovery Act; Jon Wolfsthal, Special Advisor to the Vice President for nonproliferation; Matt Teper Speechwriter for the Vice President; and Kirsten White, Policy Director for Dr. Jill Biden. Herro Mustafa is also joining the Vice President’s staff, detailed from the State Department, as Special Advisor to the Vice President for the Middle East and South Asia.


  • Readout of the President's telephone call to Prime Minister Brown of the United Kingdom

    Earlier today, The President spoke with Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. In a call that lasted approximately 25 minutes, the President and the Prime Minister covered three major topics: the G-20 Summit and the international financial crisis, Iran, and Afghanistan-Pakistan.

    Today, President Barack Obama announced his intent to nominate the following individuals to key administration posts: David H. Stevens, Assistant Secretary for Housing and Federal Housing Commissioner, Department of Housing and Urban Development; Harold Hongju Koh, Legal Adviser, State Department; and Dr. Yvette Roubideaux, Director of Indian Health Service, Department of Health and Human Services.

Koonin, Under Secretary for Science, Department of Energy; David Sandalow, Assistant Secretary for Policy and International Affairs, Department of Energy; Ambassador Johnnie Carson, Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, State Department; Kathy Martinez, Assistant Secretary for Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), Department of Labor; Jonathan S. Adelstein, Administrator for the Rural Utilities Service, United States Department of Agriculture; Timothy W. Manning, Deputy Administrator for National Preparedness, FEMA, Department of Homeland Security; and Priscilla E. Guthrie, Chief Information Officer, Office of Director of National Intelligence. President Obama also announced that Steve Isakowitz, the Chief Financial Officer at the Department of Energy, will continue serving in his current role.
