This week, the President urged Congress not to let student loan rates double and to confirm three judges for the federal appeals court in Washington, held bilateral meetings with the NATO Secretary-General and the President of Chile, kicked off a National Conference on Mental Health, honored the Super Bowl champions, and announced a major new initiative called ConnectED, while the Vice President wrapped up a weeklong trip to South America. That's May 31st to June 6th or, "Cooler at Night."

 

Friday, May 31st

  • The Vice President and Dr. Jill Biden returned from a trip to South America, including Trinidad and Tobago, Colombia, and Brazil
  • The President urged Congress to prevent student loan rates from doubling on July 1st.
  • Then, the President met with Anders Rasmussen, the Secretary General of NATO.
  • Judging commenced on original lunchtime recipes for this year's "Kids' State Dinner" 

Sunday, June 2nd

  • The White House held its second Hackathon as part of the National Civic Day of Hacking.

Monday, June 3rd

Tuesday, June 4th

  • The President nominated three judges to the U.S. Court of Appeals in D.C.
  • Then, he sat down with President Sebastián Piñera of Chile in the Oval Office. 
  • Later, he welcomed Myrlie Evers-Williams to the Oval Office to honor her work as a civil rights activist and journalist.

Wednesday, June 5th

  • The President hosted the Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens
  • Then, he invited a group of students from Chicago's Harper High School.
  • Finally, the President announced new members to his national security team. 

Thursday, June 6th

  • As part of his "Middle Class Jobs & Opportunity Tour," the President traveled to Mooresville Middle School in North Carolina, where he announced his ConnectED initiative.
